How to play Words of Wonders: Hexa

Hex tiles, swiping rules and the crossword board, explained in five minutes.

Words of Wonders: Hexa is a word puzzle from Fugo Games, the studio behind Words of Wonders. It swaps the classic letter wheel for a honeycomb of hexagon tiles. You spell words by swiping across the tiles, and each word drops into a crossword board above.

The two halves of the screen

  • The hex tiles at the bottom hold every letter you can use. Level 1 has just three tiles; later levels have up to 13.
  • The crossword board at the top shows every answer slot. The slots cross, so each word you find also gives you letters for the words around it.

How to spell a word

  1. Put your finger on the first letter's tile.
  2. Slide onto a tile that touches the current one. In a honeycomb, a tile can touch up to six others, so you can turn in any direction.
  3. Keep sliding until the word is complete, then lift your finger.

Two rules catch most new players:

  • Tiles must be neighbours. You can't jump over a tile. If two letters are far apart on the honeycomb, they can't sit next to each other in a word.
  • Each tile is used once per word. If a word needs two E's, the honeycomb has to contain two E tiles.

Every answer is at least three letters long. The shortest levels have 2 words to find, and the biggest have 17.

Answers, bonus words and progress

A word that fits a slot on the board is an answer. A real word that isn't on the board is a bonus word. It goes into your Word Bank instead of being wasted. When every slot is filled the level is complete. See the bonus words guide for details.

A trip around the world

The 4,914 levels in version 1.2.0 are grouped into 41 countries and 203 landmarks. Each landmark has between 4 and 30 levels, and the game shows a short fact about the place while you play. The trip starts in Australia and currently ends in the Philippines. The countries and landmarks list has the full route.

Stuck?

Open your level from the level list, or use Find my level if you don't know the number. Every level page lets you reveal one letter or one word at a time, so you only see as much as you need. Check the two puzzle versions first: your level number might show a different puzzle from the one on our first tab.
